A 38-year-old lawyer was shot in the head and killed in the Shahjahanpur district court in Uttar Pradesh on Monday afternoon in a chilling murder that has led to the arrest of a suspect.
According to the police, lawyer Bhupendra Singh from Jalalabad tehsil had gone to an office on the third floor of the district court to meet with a clerk in connection with a case when a gunshot was heard and he was found dead. A national-made pistol was also seen near the body.
While no suspects were found in the area, prompting police to say they were investigating whether it was a murder or suicide, attorneys at the complex went on strike demanding the arrest of the defendants.
Hours later, the police claimed that the case had been solved and a defendant had been arrested.
“The case has been resolved on the basis of CCTV footage. A lawyer has been arrested. He accepted the crime. IG Range Bareilly is at the crime scene and questioning the defendant. The old enmity is the cause of the crime,” he added . said Uttar Pradesh’s senior police officer, Prashant Kumar.
Calling the incident “very sad and embarrassing,” Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati questioned the BJP government about the law and order situation in the state.
“The murder of a lawyer in the UP Shahjahanpur district court premises is very sad and shameful, exposing the law and order situation in the BJP government here and the government’s claims about it. Now finally Question arises who is safe “The government should pay due attention to this,” Ms Mayawati tweeted in Hindi shortly after the incident.
