It happened when she was promoting her last release Janhit Mein Jaari in which she plays the role of a condom saleswoman. The unconventional role caused her to deal with a lot of abuses on her social media page. She shares, “I was not at all prepared for this. I am someone who doesn’t sit and read comments on my posts. So, the reactions never really reached me. This time around, when I shared one of the first communications of my film online it broke all limits.”
As she promoted use of condoms for safe sex as part of the film’s messaging she was abused heavily. Recollecting the time, she shares, “The messages were so filthy that these reactions not only affected me, but my entire family and friends. I couldn’t sleep for two nights thinking about their messages. The next day I thought should I just ignore and move one? I thought I just can be thick skinned and forget about it. Phir maine socha… I live in a democratic country, I too enjoy freedom of speech then why should I not share my piece of mind?” It is then that Nushrratt posted a video where she spoke her heart out. Her efforts were lauded and appreciated by many.
She signs off saying, “You know what, I don’t even want to call them trolls. I still want to respect them and say that these are just people who have shared their opinion. Maybe they have some stress in their life and this is their way of relieving it. From this incident I have realised that kisise darr ke chupp nahi baithna chahiye. Just take it on and give it back. I would like to do more such taboo breaking films now as an answer to their filthy reaction.”
